Founded by Claire Desmond with the support of her husband Finbarr parents to Jack now aged 7 Years old, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at aged 2 1/2.
Having experienced social isolation due to Jacks inability to cope in the forever changing fast paced environment she reached out to other parents in the area experiencing similar obstacles and began a support group in April 2017 which became Bandon Autism Parent Support.
Since their first meeting, other parents have found comfort and experienced the strong support B.A.P.S network of parents have to offer.
Claire Sought out charitable status by making contact with Arch Federation of Friendship Clubs for children with special needs who accepted her application in May 2017, the club is now registered under the Arch Umbrella CHY 7031.
From the outset it was it was clear that children in West cork required localised support in accessing suitable social groups and opportunities. Claire and her hard working team sought out suitable premises and took a lease out at 96 South Main Street, Bandon, Co. Cork in November 2018.
The Centre '' Jack & Friends'' underwent internal cosmetic construction to ensure the layout was suitable for the children's needs, afforded through various community group fundraisers. In February 2019 Jack & Friends Centre opened its doors!
The club is run and assisted by a team of volunteers some who have come forward voluntarily offering their professional experience such as Special Needs Assistants in the area already working in local schools as well as friends and family.
All volunteers, parents and external services are Garda Vetted prior to club activities.
The aim of Jack & Friends Centre are:
In order to sustain the club and support centre, we need to rely on YOU for support through fundraising.
